Crash Engineering Solutions Limited is a consulting engineering firm with roots from Research and Development of Advanced Materials and Structures’ Failures from Impact and Crash Loadings. We offer pioneering solutions to our clients in the prevention of materials Damage and Failure mechanisms in Motor Sports, Road Vehicles, Railway Vehicles, Aircraft and Spacecraft structures under crash conditions. 

We are forensic engineers that investigate mechanical and structural failures. We search for answers from as simple as: Why did that material or bolt fail? Why did the brakes fail, tyre burst, engine failure? Or where there are design faults or bad maintenance, we ask ourselves was it avoidable, negligence or human error?

Our thorough knowledge in materials failure, how structures behave under loading, how systems movement is controlled enable us to technically analyse and determine the "Root Cause" of incidents. We offer an in-depth knowledge base for all failure investigations, having provided failure analysis solutions to clients through contract research or simply consultancy. 

Our approach to reliable solutions in composite structures is to:

  • Collect the damaged and failed composite samples
  • Examine samples visually
  • Utilise Non-destructive test for embedded damage so as to detect, localise and determine the size of damage
  • Utilise Fractography Method to examine the fracture surface in order to determine the cause of failure using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)
  • Asses ply failure, interface failure, matrix cracks, fibre failure, propagation mechanism and determine causes
  • Numerically model the composite and validate the result with damaged samples so that countermeasures are developed to eliminate future failures
  • Give clients a selection of characteristics of how to improve their materials and structures so that future failures are prevented

  • Collect the damaged and failed metallic samples
  • Examine samples visually
  • Utilise Fractography Method to examine the fracture surface in order to determine the cause of failure using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM)
  • Determine failure initiating point and  propagation mechanism 
  • Numerically model the metals and validate the results with damaged samples so that countermeasures are developed to eliminate future failures
  • Give clients a selection of characteristics of how to improve their materials and structures so that future failures are prevented
