BUS DESIGN, ANALYSIS AND TEST APPROVAL RESULTS
Bus Design for compliance with ECE R66 Regulation
Crash Engineering Solutions Limited has for over two decades helped clients around the world design buses that comply with the ECE R66 Regulation.
ECE R66 requires the bus roof superstructure under rollover or toppling condition to maintain a safety cell that provides a survival space to occupants. The roof structure is designed with pre-determined collapse mechanisms, a technique we have perfected.
We were one of the first consulting companies to acquire for our client a Test Approval Certification under ECE R66 through Virtual Testing using computer simulation. Now virtual testing is standard and allows OEMs to quickly meet the regulation without building prototypes for experimental testing.
BODY BUILDING AND VAN CONVERSIONS
Crash Engineering Solutions Limited has over the years worked with clients in the body building business converting Vans to Buses or building superstructures on open chassis.
We design-in all the modifications, carry out the analysis to make sure the new load paths do not become stress concentrated and bring about premature failure.
We virtually test converted buses and ambulances for all the loads including for ECE R66 regulation. Many of small to medium companies in UK and Europe have our designs built in their converted products.

We have unparallel experience in designing railway vehicles for crashworthiness and have been the recepients of international awards.
We introduced the lifeguard to trains so as to protect railway vehicles from derailments. This safety device is now standard acorss the world.
We introduced inverbucktubeTM energy absorbers in the draw gear to minimise impact forces under crash conditions.

Our designs for crashworthiness can be found in many global aerospace products.
We carry out experimental testing in-house. However, we have limited test facilities that is why we sometime use equipment belonging to our partners in USA, Five European Countries, Japan, China and Australia.
